🌸 Spring in Gyeongju — Where History Blooms in Petals

When spring arrives in Gyeongju, the ancient capital begins to breathe again.
Soft petals fall over stone walls and temple roofs,
and for a brief moment, history and nature bloom together.

There are many places to see cherry blossoms in Gyeongju,
but two stand out above the rest — the stone wall path of Daereungwon
and the double cherry blossoms of Bulguksa Temple.
One whispers of quiet mornings, the other celebrates the end of spring with color and light.

Daereungwon Stone Wall Path

In the heart of Gyeongju lies Daereungwon Tomb Complex,
where ancient royal mounds rise gently under soft grass.
But in spring, the path that runs along its stone wall turns into one of the most romantic walks in Korea.

Dozens of cherry trees line the narrow road,
their branches stretching toward each other to form a tunnel of white petals.
As the wind passes, the flowers fall like snow, covering the old stone path.
It’s a scene that feels timeless — the elegance of Silla’s history meeting the simplicity of spring.

During peak bloom, the street becomes more than just a walking path.
A local flea market opens along the stone wall,
with small vendors selling handmade crafts, flowers, and local snacks.

Food trucks line up on the side of the street, offering coffee, skewers, and soft drinks,
and the air fills with both the scent of flowers and the sound of people enjoying the season.

When is the best time to visit Daereungwon Stone Wall Path

Morning is the best time to visit, before the tour buses arrive.
The light glows softly over the stone walls, and you can hear birds echoing through the trees.
Couples often stroll hand in hand, and photographers wait for petals to drift across the frame.

And in late March–early April, cherry blossoms will be in their full bloom.

Bulguksa Temple — The Last Bloom, Double Cherry Blossoms

A few weeks later, when most cherry blossoms have fallen, spring returns once more at Bulguksa Temple.
Here, double cherry blossoms (겹벚꽃) bloom in clusters of pink and white, their petals layered like silk, glowing softly.

During this time, the temple grounds feel festive in a gentle way.
Along the cherry blossom hill near the temple entrance,
you will find small street stalls and local food vendors.
They sell simple snacks — fish cakes, tteokbokki, roasted chestnuts, cotton candy, and coffee.
Families and couples stop to enjoy a bite before continuing their walk through the blossoms.
It adds a soft, cheerful rhythm to the peaceful temple air.

While the city below begins to move into summer,
Bulguksa still holds spring for a little longer,
as if the temple itself refuses to let go.

If you visit around mid to late April,
you may also see colorful lanterns hung for Buddha’s Birthday

The mix of blossoms, incense, and food scents makes this hillside feel like
a celebration of both nature and tradition.

When is the best time to visit Bulguksa Temple for Duble cherry blossoms?

Mid to late April, when the double cherry blossoms are in full bloom.

It’s best to go early in the morning, as it’s a very well-known place and can get quite crowded later in the day.
